The BeFunky web site has a web-based utility that lets you upload a photograph and after adjusting some settings turn it into a cartoon.  The site is tied to one that allows you to turn you art work into a t-shirt, coffee mug, etc.  I just used a screen capture program to snag the image and send it to freinds.  The image above is of my grandson Timmy.

From: Boing-Boing The sheet-music staff for the last minute of the fourth movement of Beethoven student Ferdinand Ries’s Second Symphony — those five lines on which the clef signs and notes and rests sit — becomes a roller coaster. As the music builds steam, so does the coaster-cam P.O.V. pick up speed, taking hair-pin turns and swooping down vertiginous drops.

From: Make: I have been a Dr Who fan since I was little and the original theme music was impressive when I first heard it and I knew it was synthenzied but I never knew the story behind it.

I have a number of gadgets that are used to disrupt things.  Annoying things... cell phones at dinner time,... too much or too loud TV.... waiting for the stupid little pager to go off so you can eat...  Bluetooth headset zombies...  directionally challenged people.  This site has something for all of these things.  It's British so prices are in dollars and pounds.  They ship the gear to the US as "test equipment"  Brilliant.  Those of you who think this is all childish.... go find you own damn sandbox to play in.  Here is the playground link

From: JK I can' t remember what I had for breakfast yesterday so when i see stuff like what is in this YouTube video I am just amazed.  After a 45 minute helio ride over Rome he draws a massive mural accurate down to street level details.  Original feed from StumbleOn web site

From: Life hacker OK, I'll admit I watched the original Star Wars movies about 50+ times so one more time isn't a big deal.  This is quite an effort.  While it's not technically an Easter egg, one of the most eye-popping tips in last Sunday's Top 10 Easter eggs post comments was a pointer to a telnet server that broadcasts Star Wars Episode IV to your command line as animated text. You didn't read that wrong. Give it a try: from any command line, type Read More »

From: Life Hacker When you're installing Windows in a virtual machine or on old, slow hardware, you want the leanest, meanest and fastest-running configuration possible. Most of the time, you want the best from your operating system, including all the bells and whistles. Other times, you don't want the default, bloated Windows installation, with every single built-in feature slowing you down. Luckily, whether you want to put Windows on a diet in a virtual machine or you want to get Windows up and running all snappy-like on older hardware, you've got a handful of excellent and free options at your disposal. Let's take a look at a few ways to trim down your Windows installation so that it takes up less space on your ha ... Read More »
