C. K. Sample III has posted a comprehensive HOWTO on running Ubuntu on the Asus EEE PC... a fully-functional install on a USB drive:
I've been combing over various guides and instructions online for installing Ubuntu on the Asus Eee PC, and I ran into a few kinks along the way since I don't have a USB CD-ROM to install from and opted for a USB flash drive instead, so I thought I'd write the process out in this post in the hopes of helping those of you out there who are thinking about taking the plunge, but unsure of how it's going to work. All of this information is available elsewhere, but I found it somewhat scattered, so I'm documenting it all here for my future self.
This is a great way to embiggen the amount of disk space at your disposal. The next step would be to get tha ...

Paul McGuinness sent MakeZine a howto for installing Ubuntu on the Asus Eee PC. For the most part, the install is fairly straightforward, but there are a few performance tweaks that are different from a typical desktop system. The big one is that you want to disable the access time feature (noatime parameter in fstab) of the filesystem to minimize disk writes.
I plan to get one of these new Micro Notebooks, there are some exciting releases in the next few weeks from Everex for their CloudBook which will determine which one I get. I like the eeePC be ...

This link is here because of the actual computer in the background. A Honeywell DPS6 minicomputer system which I configured, installed, programmed and tore apart for 5 years. The drive he is holding is a 200MB removable disk, it weighed 35 pounds. The terminals are VIP7700's and reflected a simpler time 24 lines 80 characters and 1 color, GUI be dammed.

Here's my favorite talk from 243c "I can count every star in the heavens above but I have no heart I can't fall in love…" presented by Johannes Grenzfurthner. The presentation shows all the uses of computer in music, our fears and our hopes. If you have time to watch, ...

This is beyond ridiculous. The federal government is now going to track every farm animal across the country, from birth to death, because it wants to watch out for the extremely faint possibility of a bioterrorist attacking the food chain. Very nice metronome project at Danial Andrade's website. Love those projects that use the 555 Chip.
He admits it isn't pretty or well organized but it works In the end that's all the counts.

TipCamp is a new screen recording software for Windows similar to other screencasting tools like Jing, Camtasia Studio or Camstudio. Base package is free at the following link.
You can record video of the full desktop screen or just a portion. The application also supports Pan & Zoom so the recording area can easily follow the movements of your mouse cursor - very useful when making videos for the small screen like an iPod. ;Another unique feature - it is possible record a remote computer screen with TipCam provided that computer is running the VNC server. This is one of the areas that helps us do UncleShooter videos.

How To Make Fire Balls - For more funny movies, click here
This little Metacafe video shows how to make a "Magic Fireball" -- a lighter-fluid-soaked rag-ball that's bound tight with thread -- that you can roll around in your hand without getting burned (because the hot part of the flame is on top and you hold it by the bottom). Unless, of course, you screw up and b ...
