Welcome To Uncle Shooter Place

When I was going to my technical high school the social groups were Geeks, Jocks and Preps.  I was a geek and both proud and embarrassed about it.

One day the high school quarterback came up to me and said "I need your help with math or I won't get to play ball anymore"  I didn't help him because he was popular, or because of the "team".  I helped him because he asked me like I was just another person.  Soon I was helping 5 members of the football team.  End of my senior year I got a football jersey from them with the Number 1 and "Brain" emblazoned on it.

As I attended college I realized then that it was just OK to be a geek/nerd and I settled into that role.  I expanded on the standard geek philosophy and added humor, politics, computers, business sense and plenty of explosions.  Recently I read a brand new magazine (Make.. see link on right) and discovered I'm not just a geek, I'm also a tinkerer, a hack and a maker.  Tinkerers figure out how things work, hacks figure out the hidden tricks behind things and makers well they make things from other things.

Sometimes we tear into things with the intent of remaking them into something new, neat or just plain different.  Sometimes we rip things apart for the parts.  Sometimes we deconstruct things well just... for fun of it.

Uncle Shooter's Place has three locations you can visit them by clicking on the Blog link .  One is the LAB where most of the computer work is done, the WORKSHOP where most of the tinkering and making happens and MOBILE for when things get tested in outside world.

Why "Uncle Shooter"? Back a quite a few years ago I played paintball on a professional team who played in tournaments.  My nickname on "Lightening Force" was Shooter.  A trio of my adopted neices started calling me "Uncle Shooter" and now the nickname has stuck.

This web portal is going to be a journal of the things done by my geekier side.  I hope you enjoy them and I would love to hear from you.
